As search operations enter their fifth day on Saturday, rescue teams equipped with advanced technology and search dogs persist in their efforts to find survivors or recover bodies from the catastrophic Wayanad landslides, one of Kerala's most severe natural disasters. Here are the latest updates on the situation:

1. The death toll from the Wayanad landslides has reached 210, with 187 individuals discharged from hospitals. Approximately 300 people remain missing, with slim chances of survival.

2. On the fourth day of the disaster, a family of four was rescued from a remote house near Padavetti Kunnu, providing a glimmer of hope for the hundreds of rescuers working to find survivors.

3. Around 40 rescue teams, supported by cadaver dogs, are conducting search operations across six zones affected by the landslides. The dogs are using their acute sense of smell to locate survivors trapped under the debris.

4. Forest officers conducted a daring rescue mission that saved four toddlers and their parents from a tribal community. Led by Kalpetta Range Forest Officer K Hashis, the team trekked deep into the forest to reach the family.

5. An official involved in the search reported that a "blue signal," indicating possible signs of life, was detected on radar while searching a house in the severely hit Mundakkai village. However, the search was concluded on Friday evening as it was deemed unlikely that anyone was still alive beneath the debris.

6. The India Meteorological Department has forecasted a generally cloudy day for Wayanad with occasional rain or thundershowers on Saturday.

7. US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden have expressed their condolences, praising the bravery of Indian service members and first responders. The White House stated, "We mourn with the families who have lost loved ones and continue to hold the people of India in our thoughts during this difficult time."

8. The Indian government has issued a draft notification to designate over 56,800 square kilometers of the Western Ghats, including 13 villages in Kerala's Wayanad, as an Ecologically Sensitive Area (ESA). This notification came a day after the landslides claimed more than 300 lives in Wayanad.

9. The Congress has accused the Centre of delaying the designation of the 'ecologically sensitive area' for part of the Western Ghats, claiming this delay directly contributed to the human tragedy in Wayanad.

10. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has filed a Privilege Motion notice in the Rajya Sabha against Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that Shah misled the house with false statements about early warnings related to the Wayanad landslide, which Ramesh claims constitutes a breach of privilege and contempt of the house.
